There is a legend that continues today about a fairy who gives children gifts or money when they lose their baby teeth. Children put their tooth under their pillow at night and when they wake up in the morning, the tooth is gone and there is a present in its place. These cute tooth fairy bags, handmade in Guatemala, are a great gift idea for children to place their teeth in for the tooth fairy.
These tiny cotton bags are made by women artisans from the UPAVIM cooperative on the outskirts of Guatemala City. UPAVIM, which stands for United for a Better Life, is an 80 member artisan enterprise helping women through social and economic empowerment. In addition to training women in creating various handmade textiles, UPAVIM has established a school, a pharmacy and a bakery within their cooperative.
